The basic principle of the bond is that the adhesive interacts with the adherents' surfaces and holds them together to act as one. In order to function as a bond, the adhesive should intermittently flex when the surfaces flex-stretch.

When these two surfaces or parts are different in nature, their thermal behaviors and CTE's (Coefficient of thermal expansion) will be different therefore adhesive system applied should be able to tolerate these differences.

On the other hand, the flexible resin-based adhesives have lower mechanical strength when flexed and their adhesion forces decline with temperature increases.

The Politix series Fleksotix, Fibrotix, VEtix and FibroVEtix offers optimum balance in flexibility, strength and durability. This high performance combination is a result of special modified- hybrid structure of polyester polymer and vinyl ester base.

Another important factor is the selection of the bonding paste according to design specifications. Because bonds will be subjected to various types of forces. These forces should be taken into consideration for safety and reliability reasons the bonded joint should be capable to handle these force loadings.

Politix Tix
Repair type — Bonding paste
 

Tix is a hard forming paste; it is for filling surface gaps on inflexible, thick, rigid composites parts or marble-granite applications. Also Tix is used to modify the thixotropy of the standard resins. It is not suitable for combining flexible GRP parts together.

Politix Fleksotix
Flexible and strong type — Bonding paste

Fleksotix is a flexible polyester resin-based bonding paste for GRP parts which contains no fibers or fillers.

It is specially designed to combine foam-sandwich parts in the marine industry.

Normally, standard high exotherm and high shrink polyester based adhesives, when used on thin laminates in regions where a sandwich structure bonds the foam there can be fluctuations and undulation on the surface.

Also, they have a tendency to show the shadow of the other part on the outer surface. Due to the special curing system, Fleksotix does not generate high exotherm which helps to prevent surface distortion.

Politix VEtix
Repair type — Vinyl ester bonding paste

VEtix is a bonding paste for high-strength structural composite products. VEtix has very high fatigue resistance because of its vinyl ester resin structure.

It is designed as an adhesive for GRP parts specifically designed to combine foam-sandwich parts in the marine industry. Its hardness is in between Fleksotix and Tix.

Politix Fibrotix
Repair type — Fiber reinforced flexible and durable - Bonding paste

Fibrotix contains fillers which tend to balance the volumetric shrinkage of the matrix resin, and also contain glass fibers which increase the adhesion strength. Fibrotix share the same flexible, strong and durable hybrid base polymers used in Fleksotix and designed for thermal resistance requiring applications while Fibrotix is designed where flexibility is more important.

It is suitable for the spatula application and can be applied up to 10-15mm thickness without dripping. It should be applied with a spatula in layer of films in order to avoid leaving air trapped between the adherent surfaces and bonding paste. If a thicker application is required, a two-layered mass is a better option to minimize the air bubbles in the bond. Fiber reinforced and filled bonding pastes are also used in bonding GRP composites parts to fill the gaps where lamination is difficult due to jagged surfaces.

Politix FibroVEtix
Fiber reinforced Vinyl ester based — Bonding paste
